Facebook pays license fees to press organizations in France

Facebook has signed an agreement with the General Information Press Alliance (APIG) to pay for content produced by many French media outlets and shared by users.

Facebook’s statement said that an agreement has been signed with APIG, which represents many French local and national press organizations, to make payments for the copyrights of the content shared and produced by users of the press organizations.

The statement said that the aforementioned media organizations also have access to the “Facebook News” application, which is due to come into force in France in January 2022.

APIG President Pirre Louette said in a statement that the agreement with Facebook will ensure the implementation of French laws and make a significant contribution to French press organizations.

France was the first country to implement the European Union (EU) copyright decree.
