Arctic sea ice has melted 50 percent in the past 40 years: scientists have calculated the date it will disappear

A new study by Columbia University in the USA has shown that the summer sea ice area in the Arctic has halved compared to 40 years ago.

The so-called Last Ice Zone, 2,000 km north of Greenland, was covered in ice year-round in the past, but rising temperatures fueled by global warming melt even this remote region in the summer.
